What is an open-mic town hall?

Not a panel talking at you — a room where you take the mic.

There is no stage of experts handing down conclusions. The agenda is set by whoever steps to the microphone. You bring the lived reality — the rent increase, the clinic that closed, the childcare you can’t find — and it goes on the record.

Coalition members are there to listen and document, turning what’s said in the room into a grassroots survey of how economic apartheid shapes rights, access, and privilege across race, sex, gender, and class.

How the evening flows

The shape of the dialogue

Welcome

Gathering & ground rules

We open by honoring 1997 and setting the spirit of the room: every voice is testimony, every story counts.

02

The Mic Opens

Open-mic dialogue

Residents take the microphone in turn to speak on affordability, safety, healthcare, childcare, and housing — in their own words.

03

Listening

On the record

Coalition members listen, document, and gather the grassroots evidence that will shape the survey.
